This is the second full moon in August of this year. People call it a blue moon for a number of reasons.

Today at the TCAAP WVA, I Saw Venus Transit the Sun

I got to witness Venus transit the sun tonight at the TCAAP WVA. I set my binoculars on my camera setup and focused them on a white board. Venus is the dark round spot in the lower right of the Sun. The other dark spots are mostly sun spots but there are some scuff marks in the white board I used too.

Here is the setup:

I saw this white-tailed deer wandering around the cattails on the edge of Lake Marsden at the TCAAP Wildlife Viewing Area tonight. She saw me too.

I also saw a swan chasing a goose, which I always love to see.

And there was a pretty nice sunset too:

Today at the TCAAP WVA, I saw a Lunar Eclipse

I got up very early today to check out the lunar eclipse. Only a partial eclipse was visible at the TCAAP Wildlife Viewing Area.

This shot is the best of bunch and it isn't very good. I could see distortion through the viewfinder. It looked a lot like heat waves in the summer. I suspect it was because I didn't allow the camera and lens warm up enough but I'm not sure. I used mirror lockup and the timer but maybe the 500mm with the TC1.4 was too much to compensate. By the time I thought of removing the tele-converter the moon went behind the clouds.
